PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  —
Davidson saw the Saint Joseph's Hawks score seven of the eight total goals in the second half to break up a tie at halftime in taking a 10-4 Atlantic 10 opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field in women's lacrosse.

Tied at 3-all after the first 30 minutes, the Hawks scored six unanswered goals in the first 21 minutes of the new half and the Wildcats (2-6, 0-1 A-10) were unable to recover. They were held to just two shots during that time, an Annie Brockett free-position attempt and Kendall Thielemann's shot that hit the post.

Senior Nicole Pettiglio paced Davidson with two goals, while Jordan Wood and Sarah Kopp added single goals. Thielemann had an assist to give her a team-high 10 on the year.

The Hawks (5-4, 1-0 A-10) had three players score multiple goals, led by Nora McCallion's three. Rebecca Lane and Hope Anhut scored two each, while three other SJU players had one goal apiece. Mallory Grey dished out three assists to go with her one goal.

Davidson held strong in the first half, despite getting outshot 16-6, coming back from a 3-1 deficit. Kopp had tied the score at 1-all at the 15:33 mark, but the Hawks tacked on two more goals over the next five minutes. Pettiglio answered both those goals with two of her own, one on a free-position shot and the final goal coming with four ticks left in the half to tie it up at 3-all.

Wood scored the only Wildcat goal in the second half off an assist from Thielemann at the 7:39 mark.

Goalie Rose Woolson stood tall between the pipes, coming up with 13 saves out of the Hawks' 32 shots. She was one save away from tying her career high. The senior also contributed five groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Defender Shannon Blee filled the box score with a season-high four groundballs to go with three caused turnovers. The freshman now has seven caused turnovers in the past two games.

Saint Joseph's held advantages in draw controls (11-5), groundballs (19-16) and forced 13 of Davidson's 21 turnovers.

The Wildcats return home for a three-game stand, starting Sunday against George Washington at 1 p.m.
