2nd Half Outburst Leads Davidson to A-10 Lax Win, 14-11

DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Junior Christine Molinari scored three of Davidson's eight second-half goals and assisted on another in helping the Wildcats to a 14-11 comeback win in Atlantic 10 action Sunday over George Washington in women's lacrosse inside Richardson Stadium.

Trailing 8-6 at the half and 9-7 seven minutes into the second half, Davidson (3-6, 1-1 A-10) went on a 5-0 run, with three of the goals coming from Molinari, to go up 12-9 and secured the win with two more goals in the end. The junior's three goals were a career high, while her four points overall set a new personal best.

Nicole Pettiglio tied her career best with four goals to pace the 'Cats. She also added a team-best five draw controls and picked up three groundballs.

Shayne Antolini added a season-high two goals, while Annie Brockett scored her team-leading 21st goal. Kendall Thielemann registered a goal and an assist, and Jordan Wood, Shannon Blee and Sophia Sgroi had one goal each.

For GW (2-7, 1-1 A-10), Jacelyn Donohue had a team-high four goals. Michaela Lynch and Cassidy Shollenberger scored twice each, while Lynch added three assists to tie Bailey Forcier for team high honors.

It was a back-and-forth first 30 minutes of play. Blee and Thielemann gave Davidson an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals less than 30 seconds from each other. Those two scores were quickly matched by the Colonials, who netted the next two goals at the 18:56 and 17:48 marks.

The lead would trade hands over the next several minutes before GW erased a 6-5 Wildcat lead by closing the half on a 3-0 run for an 8-6 advantage at the break.

Down 9-7 in the second half, Molinari started the winning rally at the 21:59 mark with her first goal. Brockett tied things up a little over a minute later with a free-position goal, and then Molinari went back-to-back for an 11-9 lead and 16:27 on the clock.

Wood eventually scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Antolini at 15:36 to make it 12-9. Both teams scored two goals each the rest of the way.

Davidson dominated shots, 32-21, while holding a 21-15 edge on groundballs. It also was 4-for-9 on free-position attempts. GW won 14 draw controls to the 'Cats 13.

Goalie Rose Woolson was credited with six saves to go over 200 for her career and scooped up a personal-best eight groundballs to go with a caused turnover. Sarah Kopp had three groundballs, two draw controls and a career-high tying two caused turnovers.

The Wildcats remain at home and will host UMass along with St. Bonaventure next weekend, April 7 & 9.
