Wildcats Fall in Final Non-Conference Lax Game at Elon

ELON, N.C.  —  In its final non-conference women's lacrosse game before Atlantic 10 play begins, Davidson dropped a 15-7 decision on the road Sunday to Elon at Rudd Field.
 
The Phoenix used mini runs of 3-0 and 4-0 in the first half to go up 9-3 and eventually took the win, run their record to 8-2. The Wildcats fell to 2-5 on the season.
 
Senior Annie Brockett gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game with her team-leading 19th goal, but Elon answered with three straight goals. Brockett then helped make it 3-2 at the 21:55 mark off an assist to Christine Molinari, but again the score was answered by Elon as they closed the half on a 6-1 run.
 
Brockett went on to add another goal and assist in the second half for a team-high four points on the day. She now has a team-high 25 points.
 
Freshman Jordan Wood had a strong day with two goals, while senior Kendall Thielemann had a goal and an assist to push her point total to 11 on the season. Sarah Kopp added the final Wildcat goal.
 
Elon's Stephanie Asher had a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists. She had five of those points in the first half in helping the Phoenix pull away. Nicole Sinacori added four goals, while Sloane Kessler had four assists.
 
Davidson won the battle in draw controls, 13-11, and went 2-for-4 on free-position attempts, with both goals coming in the final eight minutes of the second half off the sticks of Wood and Brockett to make it 15-7.
 
Elon won shots (37-15) and groundballs (18-14), and was also a perfect 19-for-19 on clear attempts.
 
Nicole Pettiglio had a season-high seven draw controls and added a forced turnover. Freshman Shannon Blee had four of the 'Cats 11 caused turnovers, while Rachel Hianik tallied three groundballs and two caused turnovers to give her nine on the season.
 
Rose Woolson was credited with 12 saves and team-high four groundballs in goal for the Wildcats.
 
Davidson enters A-10 play next weekend when it travels to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on Saint Josephs, March 31.
