THE SERIES
High Point owns the all-time advantage 10-5, but it was Davidson who won the last battle. In fact, the Panthers have not won at Wilson Field since 2002. The Wildcats defeated HP last year 6-5 in an extra-inning affair, where now-senior Westin Whitmire earned the win and classmate Brian Fortier and then-freshman Max Bazin each tallied two hits.
DAVIDSON DATA
Davidson is coming off a series win, taking the final two games of a three-game set with Georgetown on Opening Weekend. Fortier smashed three doubles and a homer en route to a stellar .909 slugging percentage. Fellow veteran Jake Sidwell and junior Cam Johnson also recorded long balls.
The 'Cats pitching staff allowed just five earned runs, and sophomore Allen Barry, in his first collegiate weekend start, allowed just two hits and no runs while fanning six in Sunday's game.
Davidson is hitting at a .284 clip as a team, while holding a 1.67 ERA.
THE MOUND MAKEUP
A pair of freshmen will make their collegiate debuts Tuesday. Freshman right-hander Garrett Letchworth is slated to throw for the Panthers, while southpaw Jaret LaCagnina is scheduled to take the bump for the 'Cats. As a senior at Naples High in 2016, LaCagnina recorded an 11-1 record with a 1.16 ERA and tallied 77 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
High Point also picked up two wins over the weekend beating NJIT. Junior Carson Jackson slugged his way to National Player of the Week honors, going 5-for-11 at the plate with three home runs, five RBI, and five runs. The squad is hitting a collective .263 and matches Davidson with a 1.67 ERA in the young season.
UP NEXT
Davidson welcomes a trio of teams from the North for a round-robin style tournament this weekend. The 'Cats will face UMass Lowell on Friday, Lehigh on Saturday, and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
