DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team gears up for their first go-around in the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship starting Thursday, April 23, in Mason, Ohio, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (12-9, 4-1 A-10) earned the third overall seed and an opening-round bye out of 12 teams after being picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll. They will be seeking the program's first-ever tournament title after capturing the Southern Conference title nine times.

The 'Cats earned league wins of 4-0 at Fordham, 6-1 vs. George Mason, 4-3 over A-10 preseason No. 1 pick George Washington and a 7-0 blanking of Saint Joseph's. Their lone A-10 setback came on the road against Richmond, 6-1, which is the top seed for the tournament this weekend.

With its first round bye, Davidson will get the winner of sixth-seeded George Mason or 11th-seeded Fordham in the quarterfinals on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Mason Patriots finished 11-11 and 3-4 in A-10 play on the season, while the Rams went just 3-12 overall and 0-4 in league action.

Davidson and Fordham would be facing each other for just the second time if they meet up in the quarterfinals, with both meetings coming this year.
