Wildcats Fall to VCU in Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Davidson men's tennis team's spring season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 tournament, falling 4-1 to top-seed VCU Thursday at the USTA National Campus.
The Wildcats end the season 5-14 after advancing to the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Saint Louis on Wednesday.
VCU took the early lead by securing the doubles point. While the Rams claimed victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, the Wildcats' top duo of Goyo Hidalgo and Kai Villagomez were locked in a battle at the No. 1 spot, trailing 5-4 when the point was clinched.
In singles play, Connor Cole provided the highlight for Davidson, earning a dominant straight-sets victory at the No. 6 position to put the Wildcats on the board. Cole surrendered only three games in his 6-0, 6-3 win over Kostiantyn Mantach.
The Rams picked up straight-set wins at the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 spots to clinch the match.
