Procacci and Villagomez Claim Doubles Title as Wildcats Wrap Up A-10 Masters

Hidalgo Finishes Singles Runner-Up at A-10 Masters
DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson College men's tennis team concluded a successful weekend hosting the Atlantic 10 Masters on Sunday, highlighted by a championship title in doubles from Davide Procacci and Kai Villagomez and a runner-up singles run by Goyo Hidalgo.
Procacci and Villagomez rallied through the doubles draw to claim the tournament crown. The Wildcat duo opened tournament action Friday morning with a 9-8 (2) tiebreak victory against Saint Joseph's Ernesto Ruy and Oscar Baumgartner. In Saturday's semifinals, Procacci and Villagomez comfortably dispatched VCU's Jakub Volesky and Erwann Bouchet, 8-3, to earn a spot in the final. Facing Fordham's Victor Kimpel and Zachary Pellouchoud for the championship on Sunday, the duo dropped the opening set before mounting a decisive comeback to win 2-6, 6-4, [10-3].
In singles play, Hidalgo put together a dominant run to advance to the championship match. He kicked off Friday with a efficient 6-1, 6-1 victory over Duquesne's Yu-Shun Lai, followed by a 7-5, 6-3 sweep of Fordham's Zachary Pellouchoud in the quarterfinals. On Saturday, Hidalgo eliminated Richmond's Paxton Pritchard in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to reach the final. In Sunday's title match against Richmond's Charlie Burdell, Hidalgo forced a third set after taking a second-set tiebreak, ultimately falling in a three-set battle, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-5.
Nicholas Carneiro also picked up a singles victory for Davidson, defeating Saint Joseph's Ernesto Ruy 7-6 (1), 6-2 in Friday's opening round. Carneiro's run came to an end in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to VCU's Patrik Petera.
