DAVIDSON, N.C. — Despite sweeping all three doubles positions, the Wildcat women's tennis team came up short in a 4-3 defeat Saturday afternoon to visiting Appalachian State on Senior Day at the Covington Tennis Courts.

Davidson concludes the regular season with an 11-9 record, while former Southern Conference foe ASU improves to 9-14.

The Wildcats took the doubles point, but fell in four of the six singles spots.

For the second day in a row, the 'Cats took the doubles point. The top pair of Jenna Brunner and Elaina Cummer earned a 7-4 tie-breaker win to take an 8-7 match victory. They ran their record to an even 9-9.

Ally Sexton and Anna Catharine Feaster won their fifth straight with an 8-6 win at N. 2, moving to 15-5 on the year. Finishing out the doubles was Sarah Stein and Ava Todd, who collected an 8-5 decision to score their ninth win.

Elaina Cummer and Todd netted the two singles wins for the 'Cats. Cummer, playing at No. 2, won her second straight and 10th of the season after claiming a 6-0, 6-4 decision.

The freshman Todd won her team-best 18th game, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 3. She increased her record at the No. 3 spot to 6-1.

Senior Blake Nickles was honored prior to the game, playing her final home match as a Wildcat.

Davidson gears up for its first Atlantic 10 Championship next weekend, April 16-19, in Charlottesville, Va.
