Lankiewicz Leads Wildcats Against George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Elise Lankiewicz collected three first-place finishes as the Davidson swimming and diving team had a strong showing in that nation's capital. The Wildcats earned a 184 to 115 win over George Washington, but fell 169-130 to Georgetown.
Davidson kicked the meet off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Kate Moreton, Katy Williams, Meredith Nakano and Kassie Shannon touched the wall in 1:49.56. Lauren Malachowski, Sarah Coats, Emma Tobey and Erica Clancy finished fourth with a time of 1:51.22.
Lankiewicz finished first in the 1,000-yard, 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle event. Lankiewicz posted a time of 10:27.75 in the 1,000 and was six seconds faster than the next swimmer. In the 500 she swam 5:06.52 to take first and touched the wall in 1:53.18 in the 200. In the 200, Angie Healy earned third place with a time of 1:57.72.
Williams and Coats went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke. Williams swam 1:07.23, and Coats clocked a time of 1:08.53. Coats went on to pick up another second place finish in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:11.06.
Nakano placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.16, while Anna Bullock touched the wall in 2:12.60 to claim seventh place.
Williams and Nakano went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly event. Williams claimed first with a time of 57.81, while Nakano finished next in 58.21.
Shannon took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.97, just narrowly missing first-place by six-tenths of a second. Erica Clancy rounded out the top-five finishers, swimming 25.33 to take fifth.
Williams earned second place in the 200 breaststroke event clocking a 2:26.67, while Coats placed fourth with a time of 2:27.65.
On the diving board, Megan Cypcar took second in the 1-meter diving event, while Summer Abiad took third in the 3-meter diving event.
The Wildcats finished out the meet with a strong second-place performance in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team of Lankiewicz, Nakano, Shannon and Healy turned in a 3:33.18 time.
Davidson will return to the pool Jan. 31 with a trip to Gardner-Webb.
