DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's swimming & diving team picked up seven event wins against William & Mary, but they ultimately was not enough for the Wildcats to overcome the Tribe as the visitors dropped Davidson, 164-125 on Saturday. Prior to the meet today, Davidson honored five seniors.
Sophomore Elise Lankiewicz took home three first place finishes on the day, sweeping the 1,000 and 500 freestyle events and the 100 backstroke race. Lankiewicz (10:22.67) finished 10 seconds ahead of William & Mary's Hannah Vester in the 1,000, while touching the wall in 5:03.61 in the 500. Lankiewicz posted a time of 58.95 in the 100 backstroke event.
Meredith Nakano finished third in the 100 freestyle (53.51) and the 100 butterfly (59.05).
Led by Sarah Coats, Davidson swept the 200-yard IM. Coats finished in a time of 2:11.6 to take the event. Teammates Kate Carter (2:16.02), Katy Williams (2:16.69) rounded out the top-three finishes.
Davidson finished 1-2-3 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Lankiewicz, Angie Healy, Kassie Shannon and Nakano took first with a time of 3:34.11.
Healy finished fourth in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:57.31. Williams came in third place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.38, narrowly missing second place by less than a second.
Shannon earned fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.89, missing third place by six-tenths of a second. Kate Moreton and Lauren Malachowski finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 200-yard backstroke event. Moreton swam 2:11.46, while Malachowski posted a time of 2:12.26.
Hayley Atkins took first in the 1-meter diving, while Summer Abiad placed first in the 3-meter diving event.
Davidson will travel to the nation's capital to face both George Washington and Georgetown next Saturday.
