Davidson Competes at Third Annual Grapple at the Garden

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Davidson competed against a competitive field at the third annual Grapple at the Garden held at the storied Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon.
Davidson dropped its first dual meet against Patriot League foe Bucknell, 33-6, before falling to Big 10 powerhouse Rutgers, 49-3.
Nathaniel Powers earned the first win of the day as the junior put the Wildcats on the board with a convincing 9-6 win at 174 lbs. Powers held on for the decision over Rory Bonner. Scott Patrick, in his debut match of the 2014-15 season, kept the momentum going with a 9-6 win over Thomas Sleigh at 184 lbs.
In the second dual of the day, Ian Solcz earned the lone victory against the Scarlet Knights with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Ralph Normandia at 197 lbs.
The Wildcats return to action Dec. 29, as half the team will head to the 52nd Ken Kraft Midland Championships in Evanston, Ill., and the other half will compete at the Lock Haven Invitational.
