Interceptions, Bell Lead JU Past Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Jacksonville quarterback Kade Bell threw six touchdown passes and his defense pulled in five interceptions to lead the Dolphins to a 56-0 win over Davidson in Pioneer Football League action Saturday afternoon in Richardson Stadium.
For Davidson (1-9, 0-6 PFL), William Morris moved up to second all-time in school history in receiving yards (2,239) and tied for sixth in all-time receptions (153) with a nine-catch, 82-yard day.
Jacksonville (8-2, 6-1 PFL) jumped out to a 42-0 lead in the first half, scoring on its first three possessions of the game and its last three of the half. Bell targeted five different receivers for touchdowns, and the Dolphins were able to turn four first-half interceptions into touchdown drives.
Bell finished completing 20-of-24 passes for 417 yards in three quarters of action. Three of his touchdown passes were for 50 yards or more, as D'Andre Randle broke free for 76 yards in the second quarter, Andy Jones went for 50 just before halftime, and Andrew Robustelli slipped free on a 72-yard touchdown with 6:35 remaining in the third quarter. Randle led the JU receivers with four catches for 135 yards.
Jordan Dewhirst, Dallas Jackson, Grady Redding, Brandon Roe and Malik Slater each had one pick for the Dolphins, who entered the game with the PFL's top scoring defense.
Davidson was held to 251 yards of offense. Taylor Mitchell completed 16-of-35 passes for 141 yards in his second career start. Jeffrey Keil led the 'Cats on the ground with 26 carries for 88 yards. Ryan Felice was the top tackler with a career-high eight. Matt Casey, William Curran and Ben Rowell had seven each, while Thomas Sykes forced a sack fumble and Zack Popovec had an interception.
The game concluded Davidson's home schedule. The Wildcats will next play Marist Saturday at 1 p.m. before concluding the season Saturday, Nov. 22 at Valparaiso.
Notes: The entire senior class served as game captains, and they were honored prior to the game … Ben Prater '14 was the honorary captain … Davidson was shutout for the first time since 2011 (at Dayton) and the first time at home since 2009 (Lenoir-Rhyne).
