Cohen and McKillop Earn SoCon’s Top Honors; Brooks and Cochran Named All-Conference

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Jake Cohen of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Year by both the media and head coaches, while Bob McKillop was voted Coach of the Year by his peers, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to De'Mon Brooks earning a spot on both first teams, Nik Cochran was named to the media's third team.

Cohen, the fourth Wildcat to earn multiple Player of the Year honors, ranks among conference leaders in scoring (14.9/6th), rebounding (5.7/15th), field-goal percentage (.495/8th), free-throw percentage (.835/4th), 3-point field-goal percentage (.388/11th) and blocked shots (1.7/2nd).

Named player of the week three times and player of the month once, Cohen reached double figures in 26 games, hitting the 20-point plateau five times, including a career-high 32 points in Davidson's win at College of Charleston (2/14). Along with double-doubles in victories over Western Carolina (2/7) and Furman (2/20), Cohen had 28 points, 25 of which came in the first half, in the Wildcats' thrilling 93-87 BracketBusters triumph over Montana (2/23).

Davidson's all-time leader in blocks and starts, Cohen is currently ranked sixth in school history with 1,734 career points and ninth in rebounds with 735.

Voted player of the year by the head coaches last season, Brooks earned his second straight all-conference selection. The 6-7 forward led the Wildcats in rebounding and steals, while also ranking among the league's best in scoring (13.4/15th), field-goal percentage (.485/11th), free-throw percentage (.787/10th) and offensive rebounds (2.4/7th).

One of four 1,000-point scorers on the Davidson roster, Brooks scored in double figures 22 times during the regular season including three double-doubles. After starting 2012-13 with 20-point efforts against Emory and New Mexico, the junior was named November's player of the month.

Cochran, who leads the nation in free-throw percentage (.955) and conference in 3-point field-goal percentage (.478), earned his second straight all-conference honor after averaging 9.8 points and 3.2 assists per game. His clip from behind the arc is also good for 13th nationally, while ranking among conference leaders in assists (10th) and assist/turnover ratio (1.6/5th).

A native of Vancouver, B.C., Cochran became the first Wildcat to hit the 30-point plateau since Stephen Curry, when he poured in a career-high 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including six 3-pointers in Davidson's win at Western Carolina (1/24).

McKillop, the league's all-time winningest coach, guided the Wildcats to a 23-7 overall record and a 17-1 conference mark, while capturing a SoCon divisional title for the 12th time. This marks the ninth time during his 24-year tenure McKillop has been honored.

Winners of 14 straight, top-seeded Davidson will play the winner of No. 8 Wofford / No. 9 Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Saturday at 12 p.m. in Asheville, N.C. at the U.S. Cellular
