Flames Take 6-2 Win from Wildcats

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Despite goals from Sara French and Katherine English, Davidson couldn't escape the Liberty Flames and fell 6-2 in NorPac play at the Liberty Field Hockey Field Saturday afternoon.
French and English notched their second and fourth goals of the season, respectively, in the second half, cutting the deficit to two at that point. But the Flames kept on attacking, adding two more goals in earning the win. The Wildcats fall to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the NorPac, while Liberty improves to 6-0 with a 1-0 conference mark.
English paced the offense with another shot in addition to her score, while Julia Guthrie,# Anne Federico# and French each added an attempt as well. Liberty outshot the 'Cats 24-5 and also held the advantage on penalty corners at 6-2.
Natalie Barr had a team-high 10 shots for the Flames, seven of which came on goal. However, It was Ashlee Krulock that finished with four goals off five shots.
Emily Leytham and Carolyn Macek evenly split time in goal for the Wildcats, with Leytham taking the loss as the starter. Macek earned seven of the team's 10 saves, while Sydney Schreiner was credited with a defensive save in the field. Liberty goalkeeper Ann Jefferis came up with a stop on three shots.
Liberty struck early, as Krulock got on the board less than four minutes in with an unassisted goal off a rebound. Barr followed suit a minute later, tipping a pass from Jordan Richardson into the net to give the Flames the 2-0 lead five minutes into the contest. Krulock added her second of the game on a pass from Bethany Barr to push the Liberty lead to 3-0 at the half.
Krulock struck again early in the second half, adding another unassisted goal off a rebound. The Wildcats then found the back of the net 15 minutes in as French took a pass from Becky Johnson and sent it in from the right side to put the 'Cats on the board down 4-1. Ten minutes later, English added a second for the Wildcats after a penalty corner. Tyler McFayden sent the insertion to Danielle King for the stop, with English blasting a shot past Liberty's Jefferis for the score.
Barr added her second of the game from 10 yards out soon after, putting the Flames in front 5-2. Krulock would notch her fourth and final strike of the game with five minutes to play, taking a pass from Erin Bartley and sending it in to give the Flames the 6-2 win.
Davidson will remain in Virginia, where they will take on Longwood in a 2 p.m. NorPac contest Sunday afternoon in Longwood.
