CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Nik Cochran made a free throw with 1.2 seconds left to lift Davidson to a 64-63 Southern Conference men's basketball victory over Chattanooga Thursday night in The McKenzie Arena.

Because Chattanooga was out of timeouts, Cochran intentionally missed the second free throw, and Keegan Bell's 65-foot heave at the buzzer was short.

Bell had tied the game on the Mocs' previous trip down the floor by hitting a 35-foot 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds left. Davidson called timeout and set up a play. Cochran got the ball at the free-throw line extended on the left side of the court and dribbled down the left side.

As the junior approached the lane, Chattanooga was whistled for a foul with 1.2 seconds to play. Cochran sank the first one to give the Wildcats (15-4, 9-0 SoCon) the win.

Davidson led 62-55 after Jake Cohen hit Chris Czerapowicz for a layup with 1:21 remaining. Jared Bryant answered with a layup following a post move at the other end, and Davidson turned the ball over trying to beat Chattanooga's full-court pressure.

Bell hit a triple from the top of the key with 53 seconds left, bringing the Mocs to within two points. Davidson used almost the entire shot clock on its possession, but a Czerapowicz 3-pointer from the corner missed everything.

Chattanooga had a fast break off the rebound thwarted when Cochran poked the ball away from Dontay Hampton from behind. The Mocs triggered the inbounds from underneath their own basket, but Kuhlman tipped the pass and saved the ball to Czerapowicz as he was falling out of bounds.

Chattanooga fouled Czerapowicz, who made 1-of-2 with 10 seconds to play. Bell took the inbounds, dribbled to where a screen was waiting for him and pulled a 35-foot triple try that hit nothing but net.

Cochran finished with six points and five assists, and JP Kuhlman led the Wildcats (15-4, 9-0 SoCon) with 16 points. Cohen scored 10, all in the second half, and De'Mon Brooks collected a game-high 10 rebounds. Czerapowicz finished with nine points and eight boards.

Ricky Taylor led the Mocs (9-13, 3-6 SoCon) with 14 points, and Bryant finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Hampton and Drazen Zlovaric each scored 10.

The Wildcats survived an off-shooting night as Davidson shot 39 percent from the floor and 11-for-36 from 3-point range.

Davidson built a 13-point lead 7:58 into the second half by allowing the Mocs just two field goals in the first 5:30 of the period. Chattanooga came back as Bryant scored four points in a 9-0 run  that made the score 45-41 with 9:56 left.

The teams will play again in just over a week at Belk Arena. That contest is slated for 4 p.m. Feb. 4.

The Wildcats continue a current three-game road swing with a 5 p.m. (EST) contest at Samford Saturday.

Game Notes:  The Wildcats have won eight straight games… It was the 'Cats' sixth win at Chattanooga … Davidson has won 17 of its last 18 SoCon regular-season games, including 12 straight, dating back to last season.
