Davidson Starts Four-Game Stay at Home, Welcomes Elon and UNCG Over Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off a 1-1 opening Southern Conference weekend, the Davidson women's soccer team returns home for a four-game homestand this weekend as they host Elon and UNCG on Friday and Sunday.

The Matchup
Davidson begins its second-longest homestand of the year with a four-game stretch starting this weekend when it plays host first to Elon on Friday at 7 p.m. and then UNCG on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The 'Cats will also welcome Appalachian State (Oct. 7) and Western Carolina (Oct. 9) during the stay at home.

Special Promotional Events
Friday night's game vs. Elon will have a few special promotional events for the fans. The first 100 students will get a free pair of ear rings from Monkey's of Lake Norman. In addition, Street Soccer 945 of Charlotte will be recognized at the game with information on the organization being on display.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Davidson leads the all-time series vs. Elon, 11-6, since first playing the Phoenix in 1989. The 'Cats saw their seven-game win streak come to an end last year with Elon taking a 1-0 decision. The Wildcats though have won three straight in the series at home.

UNCG holds a 20-5-1 record vs. Davidson in the all-time series, but the 'Cats have won two of the past three meetings. The Spartans took a 4-0 win a year ago after Davidson had won twice in 2009, including a thrilling 1-0 semifinal victory in the SoCon Tournament.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (3-5-2) went 1-1 last weekend at Furman (L, 0-3) and Wofford (W, 3-0) to open SoCon play ... after falling on Friday, the Wildcats struck fast at Wofford behind the play of Becca Fisher ... the freshman had her first career two-goal game, scoring two minutes into the opening of the contest and then eventually scored the game-winner later in the first half ... she is tied with four other 'Cats for the team lead in goals with three ... She is also tied with Stephanie Piperno and Lauren Mihan with seven points ... Piperno had her first career assist on Sunday, while Rachel Stelter picked up her team-best third on the year ... goalkeeper Rachel Locke earned her second win at Wofford ... she ranks third in the SoCon in goals against average (1.01) in seven games ... Davidson as a team is second in the SoCon in goals (21) ... The Wildcats have won seven of the last eight meetings vs. Elon, including a 2-0 shutout win at home two years ago ... Davidson is 1-3-2 at home this year and has registered a 37-14-9 mark in the last seven years at Alumni Stadium ... the 'Cats' welcome back eight starters and 17 total letterwinners from last year ... Davison was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon preseason poll.    

Scouting the Phoenix
Elon (3-4-3) earned a 1-0-1 mark opening weekend in league play vs. Samford and Chattanooga ... it is riding a four-match unbeaten streak (2-0-2) entering this weekend ... on Monday the Phoenix went off for eight goals in a win vs. the Mocs ... three players each scored a pair of goals ... Catherine Brinkman paces the team with four goals and 10 points, which is good for a tie for fifth in the league ... Bethany Houpt has a team-best four assists and is second with eight points ... goalkeepers Shannon Cosgrove and Kate Murphy have played in all 10 games and started four each ... Elon was picked fifth in the preseason poll after having its most successful season since joining the Division I ranks at 12-8-1 last year ... head coach Chris Neal is in his fourth year with the program.

Scouting the Spartans
UNCG (2-7) split its two games last weekend vs. Chattanooga and Samford ... the Spartans halted a four-game losing streak with a 6-1 win vs. UTC, but lost to the Bulldogs, 1-0 ... Monday's defeat to Samford snapped a 16-match win streak in SoCon regular-season play ... Kristen Player was honored with the league player of the week this week after recording seven points (2 gls, 3 ast) vs. UTC ... she paces the team with five assists and nine points ... four Spartans in all have scored two goals each ... UNCG was picked first in the preseason poll with three players earning a nod on the league's preseason team ... the Spartans have won the regular-season league title the last five straight years.

Next on the Schedule
Davidson remains at home to close out the four-game stretch with contests against Appalachian State, Oct. 7, and Western Carolina, Oct. 9.
