Winners of Four of Last Five Games, Davidson Battles The Citadel on Sunday For Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcats, winners of four of their last five contests, will look to keep the winning ways going this week when they play at College of Charleston and then host The Citadel as part of Senior Day in women's soccer action this week.

The Matchup
Davidson plays at College of Charleston on Thursday night at 7 p.m., before closing the weekend with a single home game against The Citadel on Sunday at 2 p.m. as the 'Cats will honor their six seniors as part of Senior Day. Christy Carry, Jessie Baxa, Stephanie Gerow, Elizabeth Underwood, Sophie Newsom and Mary Marshall Meredith will be honored prior to the game.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Davidson owns an 11-5 record vs. the Cougars and have won two of the last three meetings including a 2-0 triumph last year at Alumni Stadium. The other win came in the finals of the 2009 SoCon Tournament, a 1-0 double-overtime thriller that send the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament. Much is the same against The Citadel as the Wildcats own a 9-1 record in the all-time series. Last year though saw the Bulldogs earn their first win in the series, 3-1.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (6-6-2, 4-2 SoCon), fourth in the SoCon standings entering its game vs. College of Charleston, picked up its third and fourth wins in the last five games with two shutout victories last weekend vs. ASU (W, 3-0) and Western (W, 1-0) ... the 'Cats finished up their four-game homestand 3-1 ... they improved to 4-0 when scoring three or more goals after Friday's 3-0 win vs. ASU ... Gerow tied her career-best with three points in the win on a goal and assist ... Becca Fisher headed in her third game-winner on the season off a cross from Rachel Stelter in Sunday's win ... the two freshmen pace the Wildcats offensively with five goals and four assists, respectively ... Fisher has team bests of 11 points and 50 shots ... Davidson's 26 goals are second-most in the SoCon ... 12 Wildcats in all this year have scored at least one goal ... goalkeeper Rachel Locke earned her second and third career shutout wins last weekend ... she ranks first in the SoCon in goals against average (0.67) in 11 games ... she has 35 saves ... Davidson is 2-2 this year on the road and 4-4-2 at home ... the Wildcats are 4-0 vs. The Citadel at home and not given up a single goal to the Bulldogs, 32-0 ... head coach Greg Ashton is 15 wins away from reaching 100 while at Davidson ... the 'Cats' welcome back eight starters and 17 total letterwinners from last year ... Davison was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon preseason poll.     

Scouting the Cougars
CofC (8-6, 4-2 SoCon) is tied with Davidson at 4-2 in league play entering Thursday's game ... the Cougars are coming off a 1-1 home weekend against Elon (W, 2-1) and UNCG (L, 1-2) ... it was the first two defeats at home as CofC is 6-2 on the year ... Sarah Schaidle has a team-best six goals, tied for fifth in the SoCon ... Sarah Cardamone leads the team with five assists ... CofC's 22 assists are second-most in the league and it sits behind Davidson with 25 goals ... eight Cougars have scored at least twice on the season ... goalkeeper Cricket Wise has started eight of 11 games, owning a 1.10 goals against average ... she has 36 saves ... the Cougars welcome back 13 letterwinners from last year's 9-10-1 squad.

Scouting the Bulldogs
The Citadel (4-8-2, 2-3-1 SoCon) plays home against Georgia Southern before coming to Davidson ... the Bulldogs went 0-2 last weekend in games vs. UNCG and Elon ... they are 1-2-2 on the road this year ... Vanessa Aponte and Mariana Garcia are tied for the team lead with six goals, three assists and 15 points ... they rank fifth in the league in points ... Garcia was the SoCon Freshman of the Year last year ... goalkeeper Laura Serafino has started six of 13 games ... she has 46 saves and a 1.42 goals against average ... The Citadel went 2-6-2 in non-conference games ... they returned 15 letterwinners from last year's 12-8-1 team, which went 7-4 in league play.

Next on the Schedule
After hosting The Citadel on Sunday, the 'Cats play at Samford and Chattanooga, Oct. 21-23, in their final two road games of the year.
