WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Christine Rua gave Davidson an early lead, but Wake Forest responded with seven unanswered goals to take a 7-1 victory in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday night in Kentner Stadium.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Wildcats (7-5, 2-0 NorPac East). Wake Forest (5-8, 0-3 ACC), a team receiving votes in the latest NFHCA/Kookaburra Division I Coaches Poll, has now won four out of their last five games after starting the season 1-8.

Lizzie Rae and Kari Walkley each scored twice to lead Wake's attack.

Rua scored her sixth goal of the season in the 16th minute, deflecting a shot by junior Finley Amato for an early 1-0 Davidson advantage. The assist was the 13th of Amato's career, tying her for third all-time at Davidson with Ashley Hart (1997-2000).

The Demon Deacons began taking control of the game in the 24th minute with Rae scoring an unassisted goal. Walkley knocked a rebound into the cage in the 29th minute and Taylor Rhea redirected a shot by Cristen Atchison in the 32nd minute to give Wake a 3-1 halftime lead.

Wake Forest added four goals in the second half, three of which came in the final eight minutes. Rae scored in the 44th minute off a penalty corner for Wake's fourth goal, with Molly Murphy earning the assist. Walkley tallied her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute when Adelaide Knott found her with a pass in front. Walkley then found Kaitlin Piosa in the 68th minute for a 6-1 Wake advantage. Jess McFadyen tallied the game's final goal with no time remaining off a penalty corner, with Jillian Anzalone earning the assist.

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Fisher matched a season-high nine saves for Davidson, while Kaitlyn Ruhf made one for Wake Forest.

Davidson returns to NorPac play Friday at Radford. The Wildcats next play on Belk Turf Field Sunday at 1 p.m. against Liberty.
