DAVIDSON, N.C. — Sophomore Rachel Barnett (Raleigh, N.C.) netted her first goal of the season in helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime on Friday night vs. Furman in both teams opening Southern Conference matches in women's soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
Barnett scored the equalizer for Davidson (4-4-1) in the 19th minute of the first half to knot things up at 1-apiece. The score remained that way for the next 91 minutes as the Wildcats played in their first overtime game of the season.
Furman's (5-3-1) Dee Makris netted the Paladins' goal in the 16th minute to give them an early 1-0 advantage.
Davidson wraps up its three-game homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against Wofford on Sunday, Sept. 26. The Terriers dropped a 3-0 contest at Georgia Southern earlier today in their conference opener.
GAME NOTES: Davidson stayed perfect at home, 3-0-1 ...in their last three overtime games, dating back to 2008, the 'Cats are 2-0-1 ... senior Allison Drutchas earned the assist on Barnett's goal, giving the senior a team-leading five on the year ... those five assists are a new career-high for the senior ... prior to tonight's game, the last six contests had all been decided by a single goal ... The Wildcats are now 8-16-3 all-time vs. Furman, but they have gone 2-1-1 in the last four meetings ... Davidson is just two SoCon wins away from reaching the 100 mark in program history.
