DAVIDSON, N.C. — Having won four straight games, Davidson looks to continue its winning ways when it plays Longwood on Wednesday at John M. Belk Arena in non-conference women's basketball action.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (6-7) plays its fifth home game in the past six contest on Wednesday, hosting the Longwood Lancers (4-12) at 7 p.m. as the Wildcats seek to win their fourth straight win at home.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is just one game old, with the Wildcats taking the lone decision, 60-50 back on Nov. 20, 2005 in the championship game of the Lancer Invitational. It's one of three in-season tournament titles Davidson has captured during the Watts' era.
Scouting the Wildcats
•The winning continued for the red-hot Wildcats as they scored their fourth straight victory on Monday at Elon, an 82-73 decision that moved them into first place in the SoCon at 5-1.
•For the first time since Feb. 14, 2009, Davidson had all five of its starters score in double figures.
•Alex Thompson was stroking it in the first half with 17 points on her way to a team-best 22. It's her second 20-point game of the season and seventh of her career.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius impressed again, registering her third double-double in a row (5th of the year) by tallying all 15 of her points and all but one of her 15 rebounds in the second half.
•The freshman is coming off a month of December where she averaged 18.8 ppg and 9.3 rpg.
•Joining those pair in Monday's win was Julia Paquette (14 pts./7 rebs.), Monica Laune (season highs 13 pts./7 rebs./6 steals-tied career-high) and Ashley Lax (12 pts.).
•Overall, Davidson has won six of its last seven games, which during that span, the 'Cats are outscoring the opposition 72-62, shooting 44 percent from the floor – 36.7 from behind the arc – and hauling in just over 40 rebounds a contest.
•Davidson is in the midst of playing five games in a 10-day stretch. In addition, starting back on Dec. 7 and then finishing Jan. 11, Davidson is playing seven of its nine games during that stretch at home.
•With their 44 rebounds on Monday, the Wildcats have hit the 40-board mark in the last three straight games.
•Davidson is 3-1 in home games this year, and have won their last three straight. It's the longest winning streak since the 'Cats rattled off seven between the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
•The Wildcats have gone 28-10 the last four years at home and are 123-78 overall.
•Longwood will be the Wildcats' eighth non-conference opponent this season.
•Coach Watts (ninth season) is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 135-113 record. She is also closing in on 100-SoCon wins for her career, sitting at 95-61.
Scouting the Lancers
•Longwood enters Wednesday's game having dropped its last four, including an 82-70 setback on Monday evening at Campbell.
•The Lancers trailed by just one at halftime, but were held to 31 percent shooting in the second half and outscored 42-31.
•Chelsea Coward and Krystal Garrison led the way with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
•The duo have led the team in scoring a combined nine times and are first and second, respectively, on the team in scoring at 10.1 ppg and 9.3 ppg.
•The pair are also a threat to hit the three-ball, having hit 50 of the Lancers' 78 three-pointers this year.
•Longwood returns seven of its 12 letterwinners from last season's 8-21 squad.
•Longwood has had a tough time of it on the road this year, sitting at 1-7, but have played at schools like Virginia Tech, West Virginia and James Madison, which was ranked at the time.
•Wins this year have come against Utah Valley, Texas-Pan American, Campbell and High Point.
•The Lancers enter Wednesday's contest averaging 62.4 ppg and hitting 37.6 percent of their shots.
•Head coach Kristin Caruso is in her third year.
