
UNC Greensboro Tops Davidson 9-1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Spartan pitcher Greg Martin allowed three hits and one run through seven innings to lead UNC Greensboro to a 9-1 SoCon baseball victory over Davidson Thursday afternoon at UNCG Stadium.
Martin threw a total of 94 pitches, struck out seven and walked two. Rob Gilliam tossed two scoreless innings in relief, walking one, striking out two and allowing one hit.
Matt Webb led the Wildcats (11-37, 3-23 SoCon) from the plate with a 2-for-4 performance and scored the lone run. Hugh Eden and Danny Weiss collected the other two hits with each going 1-for-3 on the afternoon.
Corey Overholtzer was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Spartans (31-24, 15-11 SoCon), while Pedro Leon and Ray Quinones each recorded two hits.
Four hits, including a two-run single by Ricky Orton, helped UNCG to a four-run third inning. The Spartans added another run in the sixth before Davidson got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh.
Webb singled with one out, and Weiss followed with an RBI double to make the margin 5-1. Leon plated two runs with a double in the bottom of the frame, and Overholtzer added a two-run single in the eighth for the final 9-1 margin.
The 'Cats and Spartans finish the series with a 7 p.m. contest Friday at UNCG Stadium. It will be the season finale for both clubs and the final tune-up before next week's Southern Conference Tournament.
