
Wildcats Net 17th Win in 6-1 Triumph Over Wofford

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson made it five straight when in its second-to-last regular-season match, it earned a 6-1 Southern Conference victory against visiting Wofford on Friday afternoon in women's tennis action at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats improved to 17-4 overall and ran their conference mark to 7-1 on the year. They also remained perfect at home with a 10-0 mark. Wofford dropped their second straight league match in falling to 4-4 in the SoCon and 12-6 overall.
The 'Cats' doubles teams at No. 1 and No. 3 each scored 8-4 wins to help them take an early 1-0 lead in the match. With the two doubles wins, Davidson improved to 17-4 in league double matches as a team.
Following the doubles points, Davidson was able to capture five of the six singles positions for the five-point win. Senior Kelsey Linville (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) each tallied their 12th and 13th singles victories, respectively, to pace Davidson. Each of them also ran their singles mark against SoCon foes to 6-2.
After dropping her doubles match, sophomore Tresea Wang (Charlotte, N.C.) regrouped to win her team-leading 11th straight singles match in taking home a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 over Sonia Anand. The 11-match win streak ties senior Meredith Skeeters (Greensboro, N.C.) for the longest singles winning streak this year. Wang also remained perfect in league matches, moving to 6-0 on the year.
The senior duo of Skeeters and Kim Whelan (Sewickley, Pa.) helped finish off the match with a wins at No. 5 and 3 positions. Skeeters picked up her 14th win in singles action by earning a 10-4 win in a super tie-breaker, while Whelan pushed her team-high win total to 16 after securing a straight set, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sabrina Smyers.
Davidson closes out the regular season with its final SoCon match, a 1 p.m. affair with the matchup against No. 66 and SoCon leader Furman.
