
Wildcat W. Tennis Earns Fifth 7-0 Win, Blanks Radford on Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Davidson women's tennis team regrouped after a tough defeat to Virginia Tech the day before by earning their fifth shutout win of the season, taking home a 7-0 victory over Radford in a netural site match on Sunday afternoon.
Davidson won its fifth match in the past six to improve to 5-2 on the season. Radford fell to 2-2 in its 2008 campaign.
The Wildcats started the match with a three-match sweep of all three doubles to take a 1-0 lead in team points. The duo of senior Kelsey Linville (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) ran their doubles record to 5-2 with a 8-5 triumph over Ivana Tomaic and Camila Noldin at No. 1.
Freshman Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) earned her first collegiate doubles win, teaming up with senior Meredith Skeeters (Greensboro, N.C.) to score an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Davidson improved to 34-14 in singles play this year with a sweep of all six singles matches to earn the 7-0 win.
Linville and Berry scored their third and fourth singles wins, respectively, on the year with straight set victories at No. 1 and 2.
Sophomore Teresa Wang (Charlotte, N.C.), junior Lora Dushanova (Silven, Bulgaria) and Skeeters all scored their fourth singles wins of the season with wins at No. 5, 6, and 4. Wang and Dushanova never allowed more than two games in a set.
Finishing out the wins in singles play was senior Kim Whelan (Sewickley, Pa.) with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Noldin at No. 3 singles.
Davidson returns home for its next two matches, opening Southern Conference play with a match against Chattanooga on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. After the conclusion of that match, the Wildcats will host South Carolina State later that afternoon at 3 p.m.
