DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team is partnering with more than 200 colleges and high schools across the country to participate in the sixth annual Dig for the Cure, hosting the College of Charleston at Belk Arena Friday night. The 'Cats will also welcome The Citadel Bulldogs to Belk Saturday evening, with the match time moved to 7 p.m.

Davidson volleyball players and staff have been collecting pledges, either in per dig amounts or flat donations, and there will be an opportunity to donate Friday night as well as to purchase Dig for the Cure T-shirts for $15. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, which raises money for breast cancer research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Friday night's match.

"I'm really proud of our team for the effort they are taking to make Friday's Dig for the Cure event a great success," head coach Tim Cowie said. "Their commitment to such a worthy community service effort will help the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, all the while educating them on the serious subject of breast cancer."

Dig for the Cure was founded by former Davidson Volleyball coach Lisa Marston, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor. Marston started the event in 2003 with the goal of combining her program's community service efforts towards the worthy and personal fight against breast cancer. This year, the event's nation-wide goal is $375,000.
