'Cats Look To Extend 2-0 SoCon Start, Host Samford and Chattanooga This Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's soccer team, off to a 2-0-0 Southern Conference start, looks to extend its strong league start with home games against Samford and Chattanooga at Alumni Stadium this weekend.
For the second year in a row, and fourth time in the past five years, Davidson has started SoCon play 2-0 -0 after picking up wins over Furman (3-2) and Wofford (1-0) last week.
The Matchup
The Wildcats (4-2-3, 2-0-0 SoCon) open up the month of October by playing host to the league's newest member, Samford (2-7-1, 1-0-1 SoCon), on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and then play home against Chattanooga (4-6-1, 1-1-0 SoCon) on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The All-Time Series
This will be Davidson's first game against Samford in the series, while it has dominated the all-time series against Chattanooga, leading by the count of 12-1-1. The Wildcats have won their last four meetings vs. the Mocs.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson had a strong week with wins over Furman, 3-2, and Wofford, 1-0, in its first two SoCon games of the season ... the 1-0 triumph over the Terriers pushed Davidson's recent unbeaten streak against Wofford to six games (5-0-1) ... senior co-captain Tracy McCausland knocked in her first score of the season as her goal on Sunday at Wofford was the game-winner ... Coming off a school-record tying 10 shutouts last season, Davidson's defense earned its first shutout of the year on Sunday vs. the Terriers ... the defense has allowed just 11 goals in nine games, the third least amount given up in the SoCon ... freshman Jessie Baxa, in her second collegiate start, registered her second straight win and first career shutout ... fellow classmate Stephanie Gerow has provided a spark on offense lately, having scored three times in the past six games to tie junior Kyri Bye-Nagel for top-team honors in goals with three ... the Wildcats are sporting a 1-1-2 overall mark at home ... in their last meeting against Chattanooga, Bye-Nagel tallied two goals and assist in leading the 'Cats to a 4-0 win.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Despite being just 2-7-1, Samford played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the league with games against No. 8 Texas, Marquette, Arkansas, Alabama and Auburn, and then hosting the SoCon preseason favorite, UNC Greensboro, last weekend ... played to a 0-0 tie against the Spartans last Sunday to open up SoCon play at 1-0-1 ... the Bulldogs earned a 3-0 home win against Elon to earn its first win in their inaugural season in the league ... Samford was previously a member of the Ohio Valley Conference ... Sarah Wilkinson has a team-high two goals and one assist for five points ... goalkeeper Cayley Winters is one of the players between the pipes in the league, ranking second in goals against average (0.76) and shutouts (3) ... the Bulldogs return 14 of its 19 letterwinners from last year's NCAA qualifying team.

Chattanooga recorded its first SoCon win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Elon last Sunday ... Susanne Mader and D.K. Henry netted both goals in the win ... Henry, a freshman, has scored three of the Mocs nine goals on the year to pace the team, while adding an assist for a team-high seven points ... Mader and Morgan Shelton are tied with two goals each ... between the pipes, Allie Preston paces the conference with 70 saves as she has played in all 11 games ... she also is tied for second with three shutouts ... Chattanooga has already surpassed its win total from a year ago when the Mocs were
2-10-2.

Davidson hits the road for a single game in Charleston, S.C. as it takes on College of Charleston next Friday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. The Wildcats took a 2-1 overtime win against the Cougars last year at Alumni Stadium.
