DAVIDSON, N.C. — The junior trio of Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany), Blakely Low (San Antonio, Texas) and Suzanne Sittko (Greenwood Village, Colo.) each scored twice on the afternoon in leading the Davidson women's soccer team to a season-high seven goals in a 7-0 shutout win over The Citadel on a sunny afternoon at Alumni Stadium in Southern Conference action.
The trio, along with senior Tiffany Mumby (Houston, Texas), who also found the back of the net, helped the Wildcats get back on the winning track, improving to 7-3-3 overall and 5-1-0 in SoCon play. The Wildcats also remained perfect in the all-time series against the Bulldogs at 8-0-0.
The Bulldogs fell to 3-9-1 overall and 1-5-0 in league action. They were coming off a 2-1 win over Georgia Southern on Friday for their first league win in program history.
The two-goal game for Bye-Nagel was her second in the past three contests, while Low and Sittko picked up their second career multi-goal games. Bye-Nagel, who earlier this week was named the SoCon Player of the Week, also moved into second place in the league with her eight goals.
Davidson dominated from the start, getting off eight shots in the first 12 minutes of the game. Sittko pushed across the Wildcats first score, and netted her first goal of the season, in the 19th minute off a corner kick from senior Melanee Smith (Bloomfield Township, Mich.). Smith serviced the ball into the 18-yard box, where it was then redirected by senior Chloe King (Wellesley, Mass.) with her head to a wide-open Sittko on the near side for the first goal.
Sittko also closed out the closing on the day with a sharp header to the near post off a free kick taken by sophomore Allison Drutchas (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.). The assist for Drutchas was her third of the year, which is second-best on the team.
Bye-Nagel and Mumby each scored the next two Wildcat goals, netting them in the 24th and 40th minute to close out the first half scoring. Senior Tracy McCausland registered her second assist on year on Bye-Nagel's goal when she sent a cross into the box after working the ball down to the endline on the near side.
A rebound shot off The Citadel's goalkeeper, Whitney Nave, allowed Mumby to score her second goal of the season as she knocked in her shot to the far post.
At the start of the second half, Low pushed the Davidson advantage out to four when she slipped a shot through the hands of the Bulldog goalkeeper at the 46:13 mark for her second goal of the season.
After Bye-Nagel netted her eight goal of the season in the 51st minute by weaving her way through three defenders, Low came right back with her second score of the game in the 58th minute. She was able to out-muscle her defender for a loose ball and nailed a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box to the far post to give Davidson a 6-0 lead.
Davidson's defense earned its fifth shutout of the season, and fourth in the past five games. Goalkeeper Christy Carry (Dallas, Texas) was credited with the shutout win, recording one save as The Citadel was held to just three shots on the afternoon.
Nave and Laura Serafino both played between the pipes for the Bulldogs, combining for seven saves.
Davidson fired off a season-best 28 shots with half of them being placed on goal, and picked up six corner kicks.
The Wildcats remain at home with a 7 p.m. SoCon contest on Thursday against Appalachian State.
