DAVIDSON, N.C. – After leading one of the top units at the FCS level in 2025, Woody Blevins has been named the new defensive coordinator at Davidson College as announced by second-year head coach Saj Thakkar.
"Woody Blevins is an intelligent and creative defensive mind with a proven track record of getting the most out of his players," commented Davidson head coach Saj Thakkar. "His ability to teach, develop, and put his players in a position to succeed consistently shows up on film and in the way his units compete. We're excited to welcome Woody and his family and believe he will have an immediate impact on our program."
"My family and I are grateful beyond measure for this opportunity to positively impact Davidson College," Blevins said. "I've coached against Coach Thakkar before and hold the teams he's coached in the highest regard. I'm thrilled to finally coach together and build on top of what has already been built by this wonderful staff. Most importantly, I'm exhilarated to meet and build relationships with our players. Our mission is to teach our players how to be the best version of themselves every day."
This past season, Blevins served as the Defensive Coordinator at the University of West Georgia. In addition to helping the Wolves to an 8-3 overall record, his units finished among the nation's best in total and scoring defense.
Blevins comes to Carrollton following a five-year stint as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Assumption University where he helped the Greyhounds most recently to a 6-4 record.
In four seasons (2021-24) at the helm of Assumption's defense, Blevins and the Greyhounds won 24 games. The defensive unit ranked in the top-10 in the country in Division II in red zone attempts allowed (2nd), pass efficiency defense (3rd), yards per play (3rd), yards per pass attempt (4th), total defense (5th), third down efficiency defense (5th), first down defense (6th), yards per rush (7th), and rushing defense (8th) while adding top-15 rankings in interceptions (12th) and red zone defense (13th).
Also while at Assumption, Blevins coached a pair of All-Americans and 17 All-Conference selections.
Prior to his time at Assumption, Blevins was a defensive analyst at the University of Hawaii where he coached the defensive backs. He reached the islands after a seven-year stint at Northern Colorado where he started as a defensive assistant in the secondary in 2012 and eventually became the cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator by the 2019 season.
At Northern Colorado, Blevins' secondary finished eighth in the country in interceptions in 2014 and the safeties led the Big Sky in forced turnovers in 2018.
Blevins began his coaching career at Colorado Mesa in 2011 after finishing his playing career which spanned between Drake and Colorado Mesa. He earned a history degree from Colorado Mesa and then added a Master of Arts Degree in Sports Coaching from Northern Colorado in 2015.
He is married to his wife, Colleen, and the couple has one son, Bear.
