DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson started its spring campaign off in impressive fashion, blanking cross-county foe Queens, 7-0, in non-conference women's tennis action Friday evening from inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
"This was a great first match," said Davidson head coach Susanne Depka. "We were a little nervous but came out with a purpose and were able to execute our plans well. I was happy to see the majority of the players working on what we have been doing in practice. This will only help us moving forward."
It took just 24 minutes to grab the early team advantage as the Wildcats swept the doubles portion dropping just one game.
After the duo of Olivia Hooper and Keri Rothenberg defeated Kaila Angeles and Daniela Tomasa, 6-0, on court three, Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford clinched the team point with a 6-0 win of their own at the top spot.
Ellie Hammond and Charlotte Calderwood finished doubles off with a 6-1 triumph over Rachel Byrne and Jett Coetzee.
Davidson carried its momentum into the singles competition with convincing straight set wins.
Calderwood put her club up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 followed by Hammond's 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Byrne.
On court two, Langford provided the clinching point with her 6-1, 6-1 decision over Zoe Cvitanovic shortly before Kollock defeated Mathilde Bris, 6-3, 6-0.
Rothenberg (6-0, 6-0) and Hooper (6-2, 6-3) would cap things off at positions five and six, respectively, to secure the shutout.
