Wildcats Fend Off La Salle in Gritty Road Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Davidson used a 38-26 rebounding advantage and went 11-of-11 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to seal a 62-58 victory over La Salle Sunday afternoon inside Glaser Arena.
The Wildcats improved to 6-1 in Atlantic 10 play and 14-6 on the season. The Explorers dropped their fourth game in-a-row and fell to 3-4 in league action (10-8).
Katie Donovan led the 'Cats with 13 points, shooting 4-of-6 form the field with a season-high six rebounds. Kyra Bruyndoncx also tallied double figures with an 11-point, five rebound performance.
Four Wildcats recorded more than five rebounds to earn the plus-12 advantage on the glass, the second-largest margin of the season.
The Explorers battled back from a 25-14 second-quarter deficit, cutting the score to 31-30 with 4:01 remaining in the third. Davidson ended the quarter on a 12-9 run to keep a four-point lead going into the final frame.
La Salle made another push to take the lead, closing the gap to two points within the final 30 seconds, but six straight made free throws from Donovan, Emilie Bessell and Elena Alvarez Catellanos sealed the win for the Wildcats.
Joanne Quinn led the Explorers with 19 points and three assists.
