Wildcats Resume Conference Play at Loyola Chicago

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's basketball team returns to conference action on New Year's Eve, traveling to Loyola Chicago for an afternoon contest.

LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats closed out non-conference action with a 68-59 loss to the NC State Wolfpack on Dec. 21.
NC State held the 'Cats to just 2-of-19 shooting in the opening quarter while racing out to a 20-4 advantage.
Trailing 39-26 shortly after intermission, Davidson started to slowly chip away making it a three-point game on several occasions, including 49-46 on an Elena Alvarez Castellanos driving layup with 15 ticks left in the period. After a Charlise Dunn triple made it a 60-59 game with 1:42 remaining, the Wolfpack would score the final eight points of the contest.
Dunn finished with 21 points to go along with 8 boards for the 'Cats. Kyra Bruyndoncx was the only other Davidson player in double figures with 13 points in 36 minutes of action.
SERIES HISTORY
Davidson leads the brief all-time series with Loyola Chicago 3-0 dating back to the Ramblers inaugural season in the A-10 in 2022-23.
The Wildcats outpaced the Ramblers 68-51 last season in Belk Arena. Four players tallied double-digit scoring nights, led by Bruyndoncx with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Mallorie Haines added 12, all coming in the third quarter, while Millie Prior and Charlise Dunn finished with 10 points each.
Katie Donovan and Tomisin Adenupe just missed the 10-point plateau with nine and eight, respectively.
NON-CONFERENCE WRAP UP
Davidson wrapped up non-conference play with 8-5 record after their loss to NC State. The Wildcats fared well with the third most difficult strength of schedule in the Atlantic 10 by NET ranking, ranking 52nd as they begin league action.
Following their Share, Shoot, Stifle mantra, the 'Cats ended the non-conference slate with the fourth best assist to turnover ratio in the A-10 (.99), the second best three-point percentage (36.7) and third best scoring defense, holding opponents to 59.4 points per game.
Charlise Dunn continues to lead the way for the Wildcats, leading the team in nearly every statistical category including points per game (16.6), 3-point field goals (30), free-throw percentage (87.8) and rebounds per game (7.4). Her averages of 16 points, seven rebounds and 2.4 assists are all career-highs for the senior.
Katie Donovan is scoring 11.9 points per game followed by Bruyndoncx who is posting a 9.6 scoring average as the team's sharp shooters. Both are averaging more than 40 percent from beyond the arc this season, highlighted by Donovan's 50 percent 3-point shooting percentage which ranks second in the A-10.
