Wildcats Travel to App State for Non-Conference Test

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College women's basketball team continues their non-conference slate Wednesday evening with a game against one of their longest running in-state rivals, Appalachian State.

LAST TIME OUT
Charlise Dunn and Kyra Bruyndoncx scored 20 points each as Davidson cruised to a convincing 77-51 win at Florida Gulf Coast Saturday evening in Fort Meyers, Fla.
In addition to improving to 2-1 on the young season, the Wildcats handed the Eagles (277-20) just their 20th setback on their home floor since moving to Division I in 2007.
Candice Lienafa also added double figures with 10 points for the Wildcats, who drilled 12 3-pointers, including six for Bruyndoncx.
Dunn and Edina Strausz paced the 'Cats with eight rebounds each, which led to a 39-34 edge on the glass. Dunn scored 17 of her 20 total points in the first half.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mountaineers are one of the 'Cats longest running opponents, having played 53 games over the history of the series. App State leads the all-time series 28-25 but are 4-6 in their last 10 games against the Wildcats.
The two programs last met on Nov. 29, 2023, as Davidson defended home court with a resounding 64-41 win. The victory was Davidson's largest margin of victory against the Mountaineers in the past 20 seasons. Suzi-rose Deegan led the team with 21 points on 10-for-17 shooting while Millie Prior tallied a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double. Dunn also chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.
LEADING THE LEAGUE
Bruyndoncx's hot shooting has put her among the top of the A-10 and NCAA in three-point shooting percentage. She leads the conference, shooting 71.4 percent from distance and is the only player shooting above 50 percent with at least 10 three-point attempts. He three point percentage ranks among the top 20 players nationwide, sitting at 19th in the NCAA.
Through three games, the sophomore from Belgium has bested her career-high scoring totals twice, scoring 18 points against William and Mary and then upping her career best to 20 points against FGCU. Her six threes in Fort Meyers matched her career-high in threes made.
BALANCED ATTACK
Dunn and Bruyndoncx both went for 20 points at FGCU but were also bolstered by a 10-point, four rebound performance from Candice Lienafa and a seven-point, eight rebound game from Strausz. This was the first time since Jan. 25, 2024, where the Wildcats had three scorers in double figures. The 'Cats bench has been extremley successful, outscoring opponents 78-37 through three games this season.
Katie Donovan has been one of the anchors for the 'Cats defense, racking up a team-leading three blocks and six steals, while Elena Alvarez Castellanos tallied three steals off the bench at FGCU. Freshman Ines Garcia Monje leads the team is assists with nine, and ranks tied for sixth in the league at 3.0 per game with at least three games played.
