DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson Men's soccer team notched their first Atlantic 10 victory after they topped Saint Joseph's 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Myles Culley scored the game winning goal in the 30th minute for the Wildcats.
The 'Cats improve to 3-5-2 overall after their first win since Aug. 25 and move to 1-1-2 in A-10 competition. The Hawks fall to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference action.
Saturday's action began a defensive affair, with both teams registering three off-target shots in the first 30 minutes of play. Davidson first shot on goal was a success as Myles Culley played a ball from Brady McGlone and Mateo Castellini that trickled past the Hawks keeper into the net.
The goal was Culley's team-leading third goal of the season. He leads the 'Cats with eight points on the season. McGlone matched Baylen Young's team-leading assist total with his fourth this season.
The offense picked up as Davidson looked to extend their lead and Saint Joe's tried to equalize. The Wildcats out shot the Hawks 10-8 while leading 4-2 in shots on target. Culley led the Wildcats with four shots and three on goal, while Nico Quanbeck totaled two shots.
The Davidson defense collected their third clean sheet of the season with McGlone and Patrick Ward playing all 90 minutes for the 'Cats while Lucas Beltran stopped both shots sent his way.
