DAVIDSON, N.C. – Entering the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship as the No. 3 seed for the first time ever, the Davidson lacrosse program will travel to Pittsburgh ahead of their first round matchup against No. 6 George Mason on Thursday, May 2.
The 'Cats and Patriots will square off at 3 p.m. from Rooney Field on the campus of Duquesne University after the tournament's opening round matchup of No. 4 Saint Joseph's and No. 5 VCU at 11 a.m.
HOW WE GOT HERE… The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 10-6 record overall, and a 7-2 ledger in Atlantic 10 play. With seven conference wins, the Wildcats ended 2024 with their best A-10 league record in program history and matched the record for most wins ever during conference play (7). Having finished fourth in the A-10 for the last three consecutive seasons, Davidson reached new heights, finishing in third, after defeating Saint Joseph's 10-9 for the first time since 2015.
SKIBBE'S SPECIAL… Davidson freshman Jenna Skibbe showed up ready to impress this season, capturing five Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors throughout her debut campaign while being second on the team in scoring with 41 goals. The Lake Mary, Fla. native ranks third among all NCAA Division I freshmen in total goals and goals per game (2.73) and has recorded 11 multi-goal outings, including a pair of 6-goal performances.
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE… Davidson's defensive core is made up of four senior scholar-athletes in Alyssa Natoli, Noelle Cegielski, Morgan O'Brien and Brynn Jones. Between them, they have appeared in 238 games, picked up 291 ground balls and caused 194 turnovers. The unit also ranks fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (11.44). Cegielski, one of the most elite defenders in the Atlantic 10, has 110 ground balls and 88 caused turnovers in her tenure, and closed out her final regular season with a Defensive Player of the Week nod from the A-10. She has also appeared in every single game that Davidson has competed in during her career. With 10 wins this season, the defensive core has also helped lead its senior class to 46 career wins, the most of any graduating class in program history.
CAREY'S CARRIED… One of three senior captains, attacker Julianne Carey shattered the program's career draw controls record during her junior year and holds 284 wins in the draw circle to date. With 23 goals during the 2024 season, Carey broke the 100-goal threshold and has 114 scores heading into this year's conference tournament. Dynamic on the ball, she also leads the Wildcats with 19 assists and ranks sixth in the league in assists per game (1.46).
DIVIDE AND CONQUER… The Wildcats have used goalkeeping by committee during the back half of their conference slate, with netminders Kayla Joyce and senior captain Paige Doyle splitting time an even 50/50 over the last five games of the season. Over that stretch, the 'Cats have gone 4-1 with the duo combining for 42 saves and a .513 save percentage.
