Wildcats Suffer 4-2 Set Back vs. George Washington

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's tennis team was upended in a 4-2 loss on its home court to Atlantic 10 opponent George Washington Friday.
"Today was a tough and disappointing day," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We started out a bit slow in doubles and needed better intensity. We began strong in singles, winning five first sets, but couldn't finish George Washington off. We competed and fought hard until the end. We will need to be mentally tough and ready for tomorrows match."
The Revolutionaries started the day by winning in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3 respectively. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Wildcats were led in doubles action by the rookie duo of Charlotte Calderwood and Ines Roti who earned their first doubles win, as a pair, via 6-1 triumph on court three.
In singles, Davidson regained the momentum as Bryson Langford cruised to a near perfect game on court five, winning 6-0, 6-1. Kavya Patel added an insurance point for the 'Cats winning 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the No. 3 spot.
The Revs knotted the team score once more by taking a three-bout victory on court six. GW tacked on another three-set win on court four, leaving it up to Daniela Porges and Savanna Kollock in the No. 1 and No. 4 spot to fight for the comeback for Davidson. Both courts saw three sets of action, however, Kollock was unable to hold off her opponent and the Revs clinched the team point in a close and long battle between the two teams.
Davidson will look to turn the tides when it hosts Rhode Island in another A-10 match 11 a.m. Saturday on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
