'Cats Suffer Narrow Loss at Longwood

FARMVILLE, VA. - The Davidson men's tennis team battled back after losing in doubles play but fell short in a 4-3 loss to Longwood Sunday on the road.Â
The non-conference loss moves the Wildcats record to 5-9 overall while their Atlantic 10 mark remains 2-3.Â
Juan Camilo Perez Gongora and Nico Pinzon joined forces in the No. 2 doubles position to win 6-4 before the Lancers took an early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point via wins on courts one and three.Â
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-1 advantage with Udday Singh winning 6-1 in the opening set before his opponent retired and Sebastian Carpio Moran, in the No. 4 spot, fighting for a 7-6 (8), 6-2 triumph.Â
Longwood regained its team advantage by one point (3-2) after sealing two-bout wins on courts three and five. Jerry Wang in the No. 6 spot, knotted the score 3-3 for the Wildcats after braving out a 7-5, 6-3 win.Â
Perez Gongora in the No. 1 position took the opening set 6-2 before falling 6-4 in the second to force a nailbiting third set. The junior from Puerto de la Cruz, Spain battled through every game but was upended in a 6-4 loss for the match point.Â
Davidson will look for a bounce-back win when it continues road play 3:30 p.m. March 29 against UNC Greensboro.Â
