DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's tennis team battled back from a two-point deficit to earn a 4-3 win over Atlantic 10 foe UMass Thursday on the Davidson Tennis Courts.

The conference win improves the Wildcats overall record to 10-4 while its A-10 mark becomes 2-1.

"The team played a great match," said head coach Susanne Depka. "It was competitive and close all the way down the line. We lost a tight doubles point and came back strong in the singles. I'm proud of how they responded and continued to use all their tools to help them stay mentally strong in singles."

Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges picked up a 6-4 win in the No. 1 doubles position for the 'Cats while the Minutewomen took the No. 2 spot doubles match. On court three, Savanna Kollock and reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Bryson Langford fought hard but were edged 6-4, securing the team point for UMass.

The Minutewomen extended their team lead to 2-0 with a victory in the No. 2 spot before Lanfgord scored the first team point for the 'Cats after taking a 6-3, 7-5 triumph on court five.

Patel followed suite in the No. 4 spot with a 6-4 opening set before a tidy 6-0 second set not dropping a game, in order to knot the team score at 2-2.

Continuing a strong freshman debut, Ines Roti, on court six, fell in the first set 6-1 before battling back to a 6-3 win in the second to force a third. Roti was able to come out victorious with a 6-4 third set that gave Davidson its first lead of the day at 3-2.

With Kollock and Porges still battling in the No. 3 and No. 1 spot respectively, both courts saw a full three sets in a heated A-10 fight. Kollock, who won in the opening set and lost the second, pulled out a 6-4 triumph in the third in order to secure the final team point for the Wildcats.

Davidson will look to continue its winning ways when it travels to face league opponent Richmond at 11 a.m. Sunday.
