
‘Cats Split Saturday Road Matches

BLACKSBURG, VA. - The Davidson men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2024 season against Atlantic 10 opponent St. Bonaventure during a double-header match on Saturday hosted by Virginia Tech.
The Wildcats defeated the Bonnies by way of 7-0 sweep Saturday morning before falling in a similar 7-0 fashion to the Hokies to close out the day.
Versus St. Bonaventure, the 'Cats ran away with the doubles point courtesy of wins from Nico Pinzon and Udday Singh (6-1) on court two followed by Maxwell Kachkarov and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora (6-3) on court one.
In singles competition, Davidson swept the matches from No. 1 through No. 6, as Kachkarov sealed the deal with the match point for the Wildcats in a two-set 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory on court four. Prior to the clinched point, Pinzon picked up a tidy 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot followed by Sebastian Carpio Moran forcing a in a full three sets and comeback win (3-6, 6-1, 6-1).
The trio of Camilo Perez Gongora, Singh and Jerry Wang each won their singles bouts as well on courts two, one and six respectively. Camilo Perez Gongora earned a 6-1, 7-6 (3) win, Singh battled back for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-8 three set win and Wang rounded out the match with another three-set victory for the 'Cats via 6-7, 7-5, 10-8 triumph.
Davidson returns to action on Feb. 10 when it welcomes Wingate to the Davidson Tennis Courts at 9 a.m.
