Wildcats Drop Two Conference Matches

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's tennis team dropped two conference matches to Dayton and Saint Louis over the weekend at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The 'Cats fall to 4-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, losing to the Flyers on Friday 6-1 and the Billikens on Sunday, 4-1.
The Flyers jumped out to an early lead by clinching the doubles point on Friday. Dayton earned wins on courts No. 1 and No. 3, while the No. 2 duo of Daniel Cowan Jr. and Goyo Hidalgo battled to a 5-5 stalemate before their match was left unfinished once the point was decided.
In singles play, Dayton claimed five of the six matches. Kai Villagomez earned the lone point for Davidson with a resilient performance on court four. After battling through a first-set tiebreak to win 7-6 (8-6), he maintained his momentum to take the second set 6-4 against Dayton's Alfons Ridstrom.
On court six, Charlie Ratliff pushed his match to a third-set 10-point tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets with Rishi Dore but ultimately fell 10-2 in the decider.
On Sunday, the Billikens took an early lead by securing the doubles point. While the No. 1 and No. 2 matches went in favor of Saint Louis, the Wildcats' duo of Villagomez and Nikhil Mukherjee fought to a 5-5 draw in the No. 3 spot before the point was clinched and the match left unfinished.
In singles action, Goyo Hidalgo provided a spark for the 'Cats. Competing in the No. 1 position, Hidalgo won his match against Saint Louis's Sacha Carcani, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Billikens responded by taking matches on courts two, four, and five to seal the overall victory.

The Wildcats head to Greensboro next Saturday to face UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. before returning home to face Gardner Webb in a make-up contest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
