Wildcats Fall to Gardner Webb and UNCG

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College men's tennis team took two losses over the weekend, falling on the road to UNC Greensboro on Saturday before returning home to drop a tightly contested dual match against Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
The Wildcats fall to 4-10 on the season with the two setbacks.
Davidson opened the weekend in Greensboro, N.C., taking on the Spartans at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG took an early lead by securing the doubles point. While the duo of Goyo Hidalgo and Kai Villagomez earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot, the Spartans claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, the Spartans swept all six positions to seal the 7-0 victory.
Returning to the Davidson Tennis Courts on Sunday, the Wildcats looked to bounce back against Gardner-Webb. Davidson started strong in doubles, clinching the point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Villagomez and Hidalgo teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Daniel Cowan Jr. and Connor Cole secured a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
However, the Runnin' Bulldogs surged in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Senior captain Sebastian Carpio Moran provided the lone singles point for the Wildcats, fighting for a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 4 position.

The 'Cats will head back on the road this coming weekend for two more non-conference matchups. Davidson travels to face Campbell on Friday, April 3, at 11:00 p.m., followed by a trip to Longwood on Saturday, April 4, at 12:00 p.m.
