Pompeo, 'Cats Top Billikens in A-10 Play

ST. LOUIS — Abby Pompeo scored twice, Hannah Merritt added a goal and the Davidson defense held off multiple late threats as the Wildcats earned a 3-2 win in Atlantic 10 field hockey Friday evening.
Davidson improved to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the A-10, while holding a 23-12 advantage in shots, including 13-5 in shots-on-goal.
Pompeo scored both of her goals in the first half, as the Wildcats built a 2-1 lead by the break, and took her season scoring total to a team-best four goals. Her first goal Friday came just 5:43 into the contest and after a long entry pass from Sib Naaktgeboren, which paralleled the end line. Then Pompeo scored off a Celie Constantine assist in the second quarter.
Merritt made it 3-1 by scoring off a penalty corner 5:24 into the second half, following a Constantine insertion and a Bella Worthington stick stop.
The Billikens (1-9, 0-4) have one of the league's top scorers in Josefina Perez, who scored her ninth goal of the season in the first half. Abby Vidas then cut it to 3-2 with 6:59 left.

The Wildcats are idle until Sunday, Oct. 20 when they visit A-10 foe La Salle.
