Wildcats Fall in 66-59 Setback to Duquesne

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's basketball team battled through all 40 minutes but fell just short in a 66-59 loss in John M. Belk Arena to Duquesne Sunday.
The conference loss moves the Wildcats' record to 13-5 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic 10 while the Dukes improve to 10-8 on the year and 5-2 in the league.
Despite the loss, Elle Sutphin paced Davidson with a 20-point performance while chipping in seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Charlise Dunn joined Sutphin in double figures with 15 points of her own in addition to six rebounds, two steals and a game-high three blocks. The duo combined to hit four of the 'Cats' five 3-pointers.
The Dukes took the first quarter by narrow three-point margin (21-18) before the Wildcats outscored them 17-13 over the second to enter the halftime break holding a one-point advantage at 35-34.
Duquesne used an 8-2 run in the opening half of the third quarter to pull ahead before the Wildcats used a 10-3 run of their own to close out the quarter reclaiming a lead of 47-45.
Davidson and Duquesne traded baskets for the opening three minutes of the final quarter before the Dukes used a 50.0 percent shooting performance and 21 fourth quarter points while holding the 'Cats to just 12 points and 29.4 from the floor to run away with the win.
Ayanna Townsend led the Dukes with 18 points and seven rebounds.
