NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson's Shelby Stanley is one of the Atlantic 10 Conference's nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the league office announced today.
A standout swimmer and 2023 graduate, Stanley was a two-time A-10 Most Outstanding Performer (2021, 2022) and three-time A-10 All-Academic Team member (2021-23). She finished her career with 21 A-10 medals, including eight golds.
From Roanoke, Va., Stanley twice swept the A-10 100 and 200 butterfly championships, and she secured one 200 individual medley title. She also swam on A-10 champion relays in the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 800 free, all as a sophomore in 2021.
Stanley exited Davidson with her name on one A-10 record: the 100 fly mark of 52.94, set in 2022.
Including that 100 fly time, she has her name on seven Davidson records. That includes a 200 IM mark of 1:57.89, which was a previous A-10 record, also set her junior year.
Additionally, Stanley owns Davidson's 200 fly record (1:57.82) and is on school-best relays in the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 medley and 800 free.
In her debut season, Stanley earned five A-10 medals and was named A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie. She secured seven medals, including five golds, as a sophomore Most Outstanding Performer, then, as a junior, had three golds and five medals while repeating as the league's top female honoree. She closed her career in February by earning four A-10 medals.
Stanley graduated in May, having earned her degree in psychology.
