DAVIDSON — The Atlantic 10 Conference's top scorer spurred a late George Washington run and helped the Colonials get past Davidson, 75-70, Wednesday night in Belk Arena.
Colonials guard James Bishop scored a game-high 26 points, including 11 straight down the stretch, to help end the Wildcats' three-game winning streak and drop them to 14-15 overall and 7-10 in the A-10. The Colonials (16-14) moved to 10-7 in the league.
Davidson led much of the way Wednesday, including 32-26 at the intermission, and built its largest lead to 46-37 with 15:46 to play following a Grant Huffman three-point play. But the Colonials answered with an 11-2 run to tie it at 48-all with 11:14 left, setting up a tight finish.
Bishop's 11-point spurt broke a 60-60 tie and ended with two free throws and a 71-65 Colonials lead. Davidson got within three points after a Foster Loyer trey with 16.4 seconds left, but could get no closer.
Forward Sam Mennenga scored 12 of Davidson's first 15 points and finished with a team-high 23 to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Loyer scored 16, and Huffman was in double figures as well with 13 points and a team-best five assists.
The Colonials had five players score in double figures, with Brendan Adams (15) next in line to Bishop.
