DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match the the UNC Ashville Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, 4-3.
The Wildscats secured a point after winning two of the three doubles matches. Josie Schaffer and Savanna Kollock defeated their opponents 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles pairing then, Daniela Porges and Kavya Patel remained undefeated in doubles action with a commanding 6-1 victory.
In singles action, Patel picked up another win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 slot, and freshman Savanna Kollock dominated the No. 6 singles match, 6-0, 6-1.
Saturday's non-conference match came down to the No. 5 singles pairing with Franny Shea and Valeria Centeno. Shea won the first set 6-2, but Centeno was able to rally with back-to-back wins in the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3 to give the Bulldogs the victory.
"Today was a tough day, but we are doing everything we are working on in practice," said head coach Susanne Depka. If we keep getting tougher mentally, I believe those will soon turn in our favor. I'm proud of everyone today and look forward to continuing our process into tomorrow."
The women's tennis squad will have a quick turnaround as they face West Virginia State tomorrow at home.
