DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team got their first win of the spring season by sweeping the West Virginia State University (WVSU) Yellow Jackets on Sunday.
"We bounced back really well from yesterday," said Head Coach Susanne Depka on her team's performance. "We continued to stay with our goals and themes and improved greatly...we could have easily strayed away today, but we did not."
The 'Cats were dominant across the board as all six singles matches were straight-set wins for Davidson. In doubles, Josie Schaffer and Savanna Kollock picked up the No. 2 match, 6-2. Then Kavya Patel and Linden Patterson secured the doubles point for the home team with a 6-1 win.
Schaffer handled business in the top singles match with a first set sweep, 6-0 followed by a 6-2 victory in set two.
Sophomore Kavya Patel moved up to the No. 2 singles match and snagged a 6-4, 6-1 win. In the No. 3 match, Daniela Porges won 6-1, 7-5, and Franny Shea, Savanna Kollock, and Linden Patterson all did their part in the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots to give the 'Cats the sweep.
"The team should gain confidence from their performances today, and I look forward to next weekend," said Depka.
The women's tennis team will travel to East Tennesse State next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
