DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's basketball team is set to open the 2023-24 season when it hosts USC Upstate 7 p.m. Tuesday in Belk Arena.

SERIES HISTORY
The season opener will be the first meeting between Davidson and USC Upstate. Located only 87 miles apart via I-85, the Wildcats and Spartans will open a neighboring state series.

FAMILIAR FACES...
Davidson returns eight players from last year's roster along with over 90 percent of its scoring production. Leading the returners is Suzi-Rose Deegan, Mallorie Haines, Maddie Plank, Sallie Schutz and Elle Sutphin who all appeared in 30 games for the 'Cats. Deegan and Sutphin are the lone returners to have started in all 30 contests.
Additional returners to Davidson this season are Tomisin Adenupe, Issy Morgan and Millie Prior.
STELLAR SUTPHIN...
Redshirt-senior Sutphin returns to the Wildcats for her third season in the Red and Black. Sutphin, for the second straight year, was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team, this year as a First Team selection. The Pilot Mountain native also earned All-Conference honors to conclude the 2022-23 season. Sutphin enters the season as the program's single-season free throw percentage record holder (.883) in addition to tallying the program's fourth-most single-season points a year ago (493).
WARM WELCOME BACK FOR SUZI-ROSE...
Fortunate off-season news prompted the announcement of the return of Deegan to the 'Cats roster. Deegan became the 22nd member of Davidson's 1,000-point club when she dropped 22 points in a 75-71 victory over reigning A-10 champion Saint Louis. Additionally, Deegan tallied 24 double-digit games for the Wildcats a season ago. Deegan enters her final season at Davidson ranking eighth in single-season points (461) and 10th in single-season field goals (176).
NEW WILDCAT FACES...
Davidson added a four-member freshmen class in Eliza Buerk (Portland, Ore.), Katie Donovan (Queensland, Australia), Sylvia Jackson (Zion Crossroads, Va.) and Chloe Oliver (Quebec, Canada) this season. Additionally, transfer Charlise Dunn has joined the Wildcats roster after spending one season at Virginia Tech where she appeared in 11 games for the Hokies.

The Wildcats have performed well in recent season openers, having won four of its last six under head coach Fulks. Davidson has averaged 70.3 points over those six contests while outscoring its opponents by a +32 margin (422-390)

Leading the way for Spartan returners is the duo of Rebekah Gordon and Trinity Johnson. Gordon averaged 10.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.6 steals per game. Johnson tallied per game averages of 9.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.8 apg and 1.6 spg.
As a team, USC Upstate averaged 52.9 ppg and 36.8 rpg while shooting 37 percent from the floor.
