Wildcats Open Season in Fine Fashion with 86-51 Win Over USC Upstate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's basketball team jumped out to a red-hot start during its season opener on Tuesday night, downing USC Upstate 86-51 from inside Belk Arena.
Five Wildcats scored in double-figures, as newcomer Charlise Dunn led the charge with 17 points off 5-of-7 shooting and Suzi-Rose Deegan added 16. Elle Sutphin and Issy Morgan each scored 14 points and Mallorie Haines rounded out the leaders with 12.
Senior Maddie Plank led the 'Cats in rebounding, grabbing nine boards as Davidson won the battle on the glass 31-25.
Deegan started off the season with a driving layup while Haines drained a three in her first career start, giving the 'Cats an early 5-0 advantage.
After Upstate rattled off a 10-2 run to pull ahead 10-7, Davidson eventually closed out the first quarter on an 11-0 run, including back-to-back treys from Charlise Dunn, to pull in front 23-12.
The Wildcats never looked back after shooting 69.2 percent from the field in the first, and capped off a 9-0 run in the second quarter with a putback from freshman Chloe Oliver to lead 43-23 at the intermission.
Over the second half, Davidson drained five more three-pointers and shot 42.8 percent from the floor to close out the 35-point victory.

The Wildcats will return home on Saturday, Nov. 11 to begin their three-game ACC stretch with Wake Forest.
