A-10 Releases Preseason Poll, All-Conference Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Davidson senior guard Grant Huffman has been selected to the 2023-24 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Defensive Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Huffman's recognition marks Davidson's first preseason or postseason A-10 All-Defensive Team honor and is just the second defensive conference nod for a Wildcat, after Max Paulhus Gosselin's 2009 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year award.
"Grant is a fearless, intense competitor and that is most clearly seen with the way he works on the defense end," said head coach Matt McKillop. "For as much of an impact he can make as an individual defender, he has been able to change the attitude of our entire team's defensive approach. I am happy for Grant in receiving this recognition, acknowledging that others have an appreciation for what our coaching staff and team get to see from Grant every single day."
A two-time team captain, Huffman finished the 2022-23 campaign ranked among conference leaders in assists (3.6/11th), assist/turnover ratio (2.3/3rd) and steals (1.3/14th).
The Ohio native also scored in double figures 16 times a season ago, while recording back-to-back four-steal games against George Mason and Dayton.
Dayton (370 points), which received 20 out of a possible 25 first-place votes, was tabbed the preseason favorite ahead of reigning league champ VCU (321) and St. Bonaventure (319). Duquesne (302) was picked fourth, followed by Saint Joseph's (257) and Saint Louis (225).
Fordham (215), Loyola Chicago (177), George Washington (173) and George Mason (146) rounded out the top 10 in the preseason poll, as the Wildcats (118) checked in at No. 12.
The 2024 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will be played March 12-17 and will return to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Davidson has appeared in two title games in the last five years, while advancing to semifinal Saturday in eight of the last nine seasons since joining the league.
