'Cats Lose Tight Match to UIC

CHICAGO -- The Davidson men's tennis team closed out its opening weekend with a 4-3 setback to UIC on Saturday evening.
William Clark and Alejandro Solares won a neck-and-neck doubles match on court two 7-6 (7-2), but the 'Cats dropped their matches on courts one and three as the Blue Demons took an early 1-0 lead.
Davidson split the solos matches later on in the day, as Clark won his first singles match of the year with a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 victory.
Juan Camilo Perez Gongora and Nico Pinzon also took home victories from No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, as the sophomores each won three-set matches. Perez Gongora earned a court three win 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Pinzon earned a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 10-5 decision on court four.
Despite the three points, UIC won three singles matches of its own and pulled out the 4-3 victory.
