DAVIDSON, N.C. – A return to the Charleston Classic and date with Purdue in the Indy Classic highlight Davidson's 2022-23 non-conference schedule as announced Thursday afternoon.
The Matt McKillop era will begin Monday, Nov. 7 when the Wildcats host Guilford at 7 p.m. inside Belk Arena.
Two days later, Davidson will travel to Dayton, Ohio, for a meeting with Wright State before returning home Nov. 13 to entertain VMI.
"We are excited for the challenges and excitement that this year's schedule presents," said Coach McKillop. "The schedule features multiple NCAA tournament participants from 2021-22, some familiar foes from our Southern Conference days, and neutral events that will test us against some of college basketball's best."
Nov. 17, 18 & 20 Davidson will make its fourth appearance (2009, 2013, 2018) in the Charleston Classic at TD Arena.
The 'Cats will renew its rivalry with a former conference foe when they take on host College of Charleston in the opening round prior to facing either South Carolina or Colorado State on day two.
Virginia Tech, Furman, Old Dominion and Penn State will also make up the eight-team field.
Following Thanksgiving, Davidson will be back on McKillop Court for two straight and four of its last six to conclude non-conference play.
San Francisco, a NCAA Tournament team from a year ago, comes to town Nov. 25, while the annual "Battle for the Hornets' Nest Trophy" with cross-county rival Charlotte, will take place Nov. 29.
After dates with Delaware (Dec. 3) on the road and Western Carolina (Dec. 7) at home to tip the month of December, Davidson will head to Indianapolis for the Indy Classic where it will take on Purdue.
Last season, the Boilermakers finished with a 29-8 overall record and No. 10 final Associated Press ranking, reaching the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in the last five tournaments.
The non-conference portion of the 2022-23 slate concludes Dec. 21 against Northeastern, a team the Wildcats have played four times since 2018.
"This year, we believe that the level of competitiveness in the Atlantic 10 could be at its highest since joining the league. This schedule will test us, challenge us, and prepare us for conference play," McKillop commented.
